Chapter 1

Lovely
Lovely was pear shaped by nature and chocolate brown skin like her mother. She started her locs when her brother did 9 years ago so now they’re down to her buttocks. She dyed the tips red behind her brothers back. (Lovely and her brother Wook are both deathly allergic to chemicals like perms and dyes) She stands five feet four inches tall.
She’s been calling her brother Wook since his locs started out cause they’ve always been woolly and wild since the beginning. (It’s short for Chewbocca da Wookie). His real name is Brandon.
It’s been just Wook and Lovely for the past decade now; both their parents died in a car accident. Wook has a construction job that he uses to hide his drug dealings and Lovely is just a black girl in the projects in high school. He got his neighbour’s to help her get into the local Academy school so she has a better chance at getting into college. She hates her uniform but appreciates the opportunity for greatness so she goes everyday.
Lovely and Wook seem like one of the regular people in the projects just like any others you’d see. They keep their heads down and go about their business. They do their best not to be on the scene or in the mix, but they’re loved and known by the whole community for being so hard working and diligent without any parental involvement in the home. (Wook was 18 when the accident happened and was awarded custody of Lovely.)
They’re really just like the rest of the community…..but they have a tiny difference they were both born with. They’re vampires and when they get too aroused they’re going to bite. Simple.
Wook has been in control of his vampire and has been celibate since he got custody of his sister. Before that, he had the whole block wondering why all the beautiful teen girls up and left the city suddenly for the south or other places. They were leaving their families to live as vampires away from them and bite men in strip clubs and other seedy places like that. That’s why the men in strip clubs come back to the same dancers but that’s another story for another time.
“I’m gonna be late, Wook!” Screamed Lovely from the back room. Her locs were coiffed into two large ponytails on either side of her head and flowing down past her shoulders. Her blue and white school uniform perfectly pressed and her black shoes went perfectly with it. “Ok I’m ready get my car keys” Wook said as he put on his reflective vest for work and threw on his Timberlands. He was actually ready this time.
Two bacon egg and cheese sandwiches in hand along with the car keys and book bag on her back and Lovely was out the door. They leave with just enough time to get both of them to their destinations early. 30 minutes. Lovely wants to study and eat with her girlfriend Shauna and Wook just wants time to eat before work.
She finds her girl Shauna and immediately sat down, bumping her on purpose to get her attention. “Hey bitch!” Shauna said “Good morning my best bitch” Lovely shot back.
“GIRL…..did you see the new meat that got dropped off this morning? I’m in LOVE already and I know you won’t be with ya stuck up ass shaking my head” Shauna said to Lovely.
“No I just got here….but you KNOW I don’t care and I’m not stuck up! It’s just me and my brother I gotta….”

“Get into college, I know, I know….you run that everyday Love. When are you going to get a life for real?” Shauna sighed. “Come to this party this weekend instead of sleeping over and studying at my house; you don’t even NEED to study you just OD for the extra high grade”

“I’ll think about going to the party but after we study til at least 11pm. Then we can….get ready for the party.” Lovely said reluctantly. She always gave in to Shauna. That’s why they were friends. Shauna was the balance that Lovely needed in her disciplined life. Plus Shauna was the only human that knew she was a vampire. She trusted her like that. She asked her to be a vampire before but she’d never gay bite her bestie so that’s outta the question. She has to find a male vampire that’s not Wook in the neighbourhood or world somewhere.

Lovely and Shauna studied til 11 and got ready til 1. Good thing parties in the city don’t start good til midnight cuz they were right on time for the DJ to be playing the best of the best for the night. They came through the door dancing.
They didn’t know it, but all eyes were on Lovely and Shauna. Shauna was tall and curvy, almost the opposite of Lovely, and almond colored complexion. They loved each other like sisters tho and it showed everywhere they went. They held hand walking through the door and did their cute two step to the beats. They danced together all night.
“Look at the corner over there Love!” Shauna screamed over the thumping bass line. The new boy from school had a squad around them and they were all eyes on Lovely and Shauna. He was saying something to the friends to his left when he dipped off from them and made his way through the crowd straight towards them. They could see him coming cause he’s easily six foot five. He had short neat starter locs in his hair and a full face beard for 18 that he had perfectly trimmed. He finally made his way to Lovely. He stood a foot taller than her and had to bend down to ask her to dance. She looked back at Shauna coyly and slowly grabbed the hand he had outstretched for her. Soon as they got to a nice spot to dance All The Time by Jeremih came on, totally changing the mood, vibe, everything. Before Lovely could think about running back to Shauna to sit this one out, Eric grabbed her close and looked deep into her eyes.

“Early in the morning when I think about you……” The song starts to play.

Lovely’s usual shy self totally left her body. She became someone else in that moment with Eric. She became her best vampire self. She turned around and without touching him but being as close as possible bent over, grabbed her ankle, and jiggled her pear shaped posterior. Now everyone was watching them. Lovely had her long locs up in a bun for the event but when she lifted her head back up the bun came down. She turned back around towards Eric and smiled not knowing what got into her but loving every second of it. She put both her hands on his chest then wrapped her arms around his body and swayed sensually to the beat. Eric reached his arms down to Lovely and rubbed her butt softly not once asking permission but knowing for some reason that it was ok.
Shauna was on the sidelines, mouth agape. “What the fuck was that???” She mouthed to Lovely. She realized that her friend may never leave his side after that and joined them in the same area by the next and faster song. “Don’t say anything…..I don’t know what happened either” Eric took her phone that was peeking out her tiny purse and put his number in it. He called himself so he could have Lovely’s number, watched it ring and hung up. Not knowing what he was doing he kissed Lovely on her neck almost sending her spiraling to the ground. She used everything in herself not to fall and cause a scene over something that should be so simple as a kiss on the neck. For her that was dangerous. Her and her brother are so close he might sense it and be at this party any minute now. She told Shauna about it and they started making their exit.

“You secured the bag, girl!” Shauna said as they got in the Uber.
